MediFund — who qualifies and how to apply

MediFund is a safety-net endowment fund for Singaporeans who cannot afford their medical bills even after other subsidies. Learn who qualifies and how to access it.

MediFund

MediFund is an endowment fund set up by the Singapore Government to help needy Singaporeans who are unable to pay their subsidised medical bills.

Who qualifies?

MediFund is means-tested. You may qualify if you: - Are a Singapore Citizen - Receive treatment at a MediFund-approved institution - Are unable to pay your bill even after other subsidies (MediShield Life, Medisave, CHAS)

How to apply

Apply through a medical social worker at any public hospital or approved institution. They will assess your financial situation and submit the application on your behalf.

You do not apply directly — the hospital's medical social work team handles this.

MediFund Silver

MediFund Silver is specifically for Singapore Citizens aged 65 and above who need help with outpatient treatment at approved institutions.

Important notes

  • MediFund covers subsidised bills only, not private hospital charges
  • Approval is case-by-case based on financial circumstances
  • Contact the medical social work department at your nearest public hospital to start the process
